December 12th, 2024
SynSel is proud to welcome John Dickert as its new Executive Vice President – Government Liaison. With over 35 years of experience in policy and government affairs, John brings a wealth of expertise in navigating local, county, and state government landscapes.
Most recently, John led the State and Local Finance Division of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, an appointment by Governor Tony Evers.
Previously, he served as President & CEO of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, an international coalition of mayors dedicated to protecting the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
John’s leadership includes his three-term tenure as Mayor of Racine, Wisconsin, where he spearheaded economic revitalization, attracting new businesses while supporting the expansion of existing ones. His national influence extends to roles such as Vice-Chair of the Metro Economies Committee, a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Water Council, and the first President of the Urban Alliance of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, elected by his peers.
Beyond public service, John has significant private-sector experience, having worked with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he collaborated with clients such as the Green Bay Packers and FPL Energy.
Driving SynSel’s Strategic Vision - In his new role, John will work to integrate SynSel’s biofuel technologies with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), aligning state and community priorities with renewable energy initiatives. SynSel’s technology converts sorted municipal solid waste (MSW) and biomass into drop-in renewable fuels, with an initial focus on projects in Florence, Eau Claire, and La Crosse, Wisconsin.
On a federal level, John will advocate for SynSel’s mission with the Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Department of Defense (DOD), ensuring continued collaboration on sustainable energy solutions.
A Legacy of Leadership - John holds degrees in Political Science and Communications from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and was elected as the youngest County Board Supervisor in the city’s history in 1984. His expertise has led him to present internationally, including at the OECD in Paris and various academic institutions.
We are thrilled to have John join the SynSel team, where his leadership and experience will play a key role in advancing our commitment to sustainable energy.
